The MDG-F Programme and Gender Equality in Culture
Begun in 2007 and completed in 2013, the MDG-F Culture in Development Programme was an innovative international cooperation mechanism seeking to accelerate progress towards the achievement of the MDGs. 18 large-scale projects across Africa, the Arab States, Asia, Latin America, and South-East Europe were implemented by UNESCO in partnership with UN agencies, aiming to increase socio-economic opportunities and promote intercultural dialogue through culture. Gender equality and women’s empowerment were key priorities in all 18 projects, producing important results in terms of women’s economic, social and political empowerment through culture.
