Director-General Participates in the 6th World Conference on Women and Sport

On 13 June, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, will attend the 6th World Conference on Women and Sport, organized by the International Working Group on Women and Sport, under the title “Lead the Change – Be the Change”, and held under UNESCO’s patronage in Helsinki, Finland.

She will give a keynote speech at the plenary session “Buck the Trend – Leading the Change in Sport Policy”.

The Conference will bring together decision makers, politicians, researchers, educators and students as a well as coaches and athletes, with the objective of advancing the dialogue around women in sports. It will bring together more than 800 participants from almost 100 countries.

While in Helsinki, the Director-General is expected to meet with the Former President of the Republic of Finland, Ms Tarja Halonen, the Minister of Culture and Housing, Ms Pia Viitanen and the Minister for International Development, Mr Pekka Haavisto. She will also meet with members of the National Commission of Finland for UNESCO and the representatives of the civil society.
