Director-General on official visit to Algeria

UNESCO Director-General and the Prime Minister of Algeria

From 11 to 12 April 2015, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, is undertaking an official visit to Algeria on the occasion of the national ceremony to launch the International Year of Light 2015. The ceremony will take place at the Palace of Culture in Algiers, in the presence of the Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Algerian Minister of Culture.

In Algiers, the Director-General is expected to hold bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of Algeria and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In Constantine, designated by the Arab League as the Capital of Arab Culture for 2015, the Director-General will take part in a Conference at the University of Constantine, entitled “Journey through the lights of Ibn Al Haytham”. The event will take place in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Minister of Culture, the Wali of Constantine, the Rector of the University and students.

The Director-General is also expected to visit the Museum of Cirta and the Palace of Ahmed Bey, both located in Constantine.
