Austria: 20 years anniversary of the ratification of the World Heritage Convention in Austria

29 April 2013 - Vienna, Austria

Austria is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the ratification of the World Heritage Convention by holding a ceremony in the Austrian Parliament in Vienna. The event takes place on 29 April 2013 and is organized by the Austrian Government in cooperation with the Austrian Commission for UNESCO. 20 years of implementation of the World Heritage Convention is a good opportunity to thank all stakeholders that have been involved in World Heritage conservation and in the management of the nine Austrian Sites. Additionally, the ceremony will emphasize the need to improve the legal and administrative basis for the implementation of the Convention. A significant part of the ceremony will be the speech of Dr. Mechtild Rössler, Deputy Director (Programme) of the UNESCO World Heritage Center, devoted to the outlook of further international development of the World Heritage Convention.
