Photo gallery: UNESCO in Ethiopia: Safeguarding sites for sustainable development

UNESCO Sites are symbols of our work in support of sustainable development. In Ethiopia, they highlight the uniqueness of the Organization’s integrated, transdisciplinary approach and have such powerful, universal value that the entire international community is pitching in to ensure they function as models of heritage conservation and sustainable human living.  Through UNESCO's work in Ethiopia developing integrated management plans for sites such as Simien Mountains National Park, the Castles of Gondar, and the potential biosphere reserve of Lake Tana, we are setting an example of how linking culture, science, and sustainable development encourages poverty alleviation, sustainable tourism, and the promotion of cultural heritage.
