Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472) is one of the most innovative architects of the early Renaissance period; he was also responsible for laying the theoretical foundations of the Renaissance movement. His studies on perspective are particularly remarkable for their influence on both contemporary and later artists. As one of the founders of the Renaissance movement, Alberti’s contribution to science, culture and the arts is invaluable, as the ideals and achievements of the Renaissance are the foundations of European modern society.
