The Conference will take place in the presence of the former President of Iceland and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for multilingualism, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir.

During her visit, Irina Bokova is expected to meet with several members of the government, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, and other ministers working in the fields of competence of the Organization. The Director-General will also visit the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages and discuss the next step of the creation of the  International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding for which UNESCO and Iceland signed an agreement in 2013. The signing ceremony took place in June 2013 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

The Director-General will give a lecture at the University of Iceland entitled “From language to knowledge: how to mobilize our ultimate renewable resource?” and will visit the Thingvellir National Park, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list 10 years ago.
