Iceland contributes $100k to UNESCO's Emergency Fund
The government of Iceland has donated $100,000 to UNESCO's Multi-donor Emergency Fund to support the Organization's priority programmes and reform process.
"This contribution is a valuable sign of support to UNESCO, and I accept it with gratitude," said UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova. "In the difficult situation we are faced with, every gesture can make a difference."
Through this contribution, Iceland is showing its commitment to the Organization and to multilateral action. The donation will help UNESCO to respond to urgent needs in its priority programmes.
The withholding of dues from the United States has left the Organization with a $167m deficit for 2012-2013.
