The Director-General also met with the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and reviewed the situation in the country, with the spotlight on the reconstruction, social peace and economic growth that has occurred since the peace treaty in 2002. Discussions underscored the important progress achieved in education, especially in enrollment in primary education, as well as the areas for further work, to ensure quality education, improve access to basic social services and promote equity.

Highlighting the collaboration between UNESCO and the UN Country Team, the Director-General reaffirmed that UNESCO will continue to back all of Angola’s efforts to achieve its ambitious objectives. Irina Bokova underlined that the Organization will focus in particular on educational planning, improving the quality of education, focusing on higher education, TVET and STI, as well as peace education and human rights, especially for women and children. She drew attention also to the newly established IOC sub-commission for Africa, which will benefit Angola.

During a visit to the new and expanded TV Production Center (Televisão Pública de Angola), the Director-General underlined the important achievements in developing facilities for TV production. She confirmed that UNESCO will continue to support Angola’s on-going efforts to improve access to information.
