UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj of Mongolia hold talks within the framework of COP21

The President of Mongolia, Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, today voiced support for UNESCO in a meeting with the Organization’s Director-General.

The President expressed particular satisfaction over the inscription of the “Petroglyphic Complexes of the Mongolian Altai” on the World Heritage List and spoke of his country’s pride over its pastoralist tradition. 

The Director-General congratulated Mongolia for its efforts in strengthening democracy and she emphasized particularly the concept of Education for Global Citizenship, which includes education for human rights, democracy and tolerance.

The Director General presented the President with the Certificate of Inscription on the World Heritage List of the Great Burkhan Khaldun Mountain and its Surrounding Sacred Landscape.

In ending, President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj awarded the Director-General with the “Polar Star,” which is the highest State distinction of Mongolia.
