Director-General condemns the terrorist attack in downtown Djibouti

"My thoughts today go to the families of the victims and the wounded in this attack directed against efforts to strengthen peace in the sub region," said the Director- General, in response to the attack that took place Saturday night at a restaurant in downtown Djibouti.

"I wish to express my sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and I extend my solidarity with the entire country.”

UNESCO is actively involved in Djibouti through its work to build a culture of peace based on education, scientific cooperation and intercultural dialogue, supporting the country's commitment to the fight against terrorism. In this way, the Organization is contributing to the campaign "Make Peace Happen" launched by the African Union in 2010, most especially through the establishment of pan-African continental and regional Forums, as well as national campaigns in favor of a culture of peace.
