UNESCO Director-General calls Tunisian President to express unity and solidarity

On 24 March, UNESCO Director-General spoke with the President of Tunisia, His Excellency Mr Baji Caid Essebi, expressing her sympathy to the people of Tunisia after the terrorist attack against the Bardo Museum.

Irina Bokova said the reopening of the museum is a powerful symbol of the commitment of Tunisia to stand unified before the threat of terrorism. The Director-General expressed her deep determination for UNESCO to support in every way the people and Government of Tunisia to safeguard its unique cultural heritage and to counter the forces of fragmentation and violent extremism. The President thanked the Director-General for this commitment, at a time of when the demand for education, culture, the sciences, communication and information have never been so important.
