Director-General boosts cooperation with Turkmenistan
From 15 to 17 May, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, will undertake her first official visit to the Republic of Turkmenistan. During the visit, she is expected to meet with the President of the Republic, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, the Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Raşit Meredow, the Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers in charge of Education, Science and Tourism, Sapardurdy Toyliyev and the Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers in charge of Culture and Television, Maysa Yazmukhamedova. Central to the talks will be the current state of cooperation between UNESCO and Turkmenistan and ways to take ever forward.
While in Turkmenistan, the Director-General will deliver the opening speech at the International Conference entitled “Magtymguly and universal cultural values”, organized in the context of the 290th anniversary of Magtymguly Pyragy, a renowned poet and thinker of Turkmenistan.
The Director-General will also attend several cultural events dedicated to this anniversary and will visit the National Museum of Turkmen carpet.
