On display in Venice: Colours for the planet, third edition of Art Camp

Art Camp is a project launched in 2008 by Jean-Michel Armengol, Secretary-General of the Andorran National Commission for UNESCO, and Faust Campama Peleja, with the purpose of bringing artists from different cultures together and promoting cultural and artistic collaboration among them. The UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture, Venice (Italy), will host the exhibition works, ‘Colours for the Planet - Art Camp 2012’ from 24 June until 26 July 2013 at its premises in Venice.
Elisenda Vives, President of the Andorran National Commission for UNESCO, and Yolanda Valle-Neff, Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture, Venice (Italy), will inaugurate the Art Camp 2012 exhibition on Monday 24 June at the premises of the UNESCO Office in Venice (Palazzo Zorzi - Castello 4930). Will be present at the opening ceremony Hedva Ser, UNESCO Artist for Peace and patron of this third edition of the Art Camp and H. E. Maria Ubach Font, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Delegate of Andorra to UNESCO.
Art Camp contributes to a better understanding between states that have experienced violence, war and conflicts and to the sharing of culture and art in an atmosphere of mutual respect. It is an opportunity for artists from around the world to meet and create in a common manner. The festival promotes not only peace but also sustainable development, a value at the heart of the Organization.
“Creativity like this is important, because it helps us think differently; it helps us step aside from accepted ways of understanding the world and view it anew – this is why we seek to place creativity at the heart of more sustainable approaches to development. I am convinced the diversity of cultural expressions is one of our strongest assets for nurturing the innovation we need for more inclusive development, while promoting individual dignity and fulfillment. This is why we must craft new spaces for creativity. This is why we must support artists and all those who take forward humanity’s great diversity”, said Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, in her message on the occasion of the launch of the Art Camp Exhibition in Paris on 3 June 2013.
Art Camp 2012 brought together 37 artists from five continents. The countries represented are: Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cape Verde, Cyprus, Eritrea, Estonia, France, Guatemala, Germany, Israel, Ivory Coast, Haiti, Lesotho, Lithuania, Morocco, Montenegro, Mexico, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Republic of Moldova, Spain, Turkey, Uruguay and United States of America.
Hedva Ser, UNESCO Artist for Peace and patron of Art Camp 2012, is a contemporary artist known for her sculptures, water colours, tapestries and jewellery. Her works are experiments on balance, imbalance and above all energy. She is founder and vice-president of the World Center of Women Artists in Amman, Jordan. She is also the founder and honorary president of the French Association of Friends of the Museum of Art of Tel Aviv and a founding member of the French Association of Friends of the Museum of Women in Art in Washington, D.C.. She was designated an UNESCO Artist for Peace on 18 October 2011.
