Irina Bokova welcomes the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria Margarita Popova to UNESCO

On 16 June, Director-General Irina Bokova met with the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Margarita Popova, who came to UNESCO at her invitation to attend the opening of the International Conference on “Youth and the Internet: Fighting Radicalization and Extremism,” held on 16-17 June at Headquarters.

During the meeting, Irina Bokova thanked Margarita Popova for the generous support of Bulgaria for organizing this important event. They agreed that the Conference will have a great impact by seeking to create a global network of partners to support advocacy and knowledge sharing in the fight against hate speech, radicalization and violent extremism. The Vice President of Bulgaria commended also the initiatives of Irina Bokova and her commitment to the protection of cultural heritage, especially in countries in conflict.

Margarita Popova signed the Visitors’ Book in the presence of the Director-General, Angel Tcholakov, Ambassador of Bulgaria to France and Alexander Savov, Permanent delegate of Bulgaria to UNESCO.
