The Director-General on an Official Visit to Ireland and to Open the 9th Meeting of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development

On 21-23 March, the UNESCO Director-General will undertake an official visit to Ireland. During the course of the visit, she will meet with the President of Ireland, H.E. Michael D. Higgins, as well as with Ministers in the Government, including H.E. Ruairí Quinn, Minister for Education and Skills and H. E. Joe Costello, Minister of State at the Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade, responsible for Trade and Development. She will also meet with Mr Joe Hamill, Secretary General of the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, as well as with Dr Kirstin Lemon, Chair of the Irish Geoparks Forum.

Irina Bokova will give a speech at the Dublin-based Institute of International and European Affairs, on “UNESCO’s Soft Power in a Globalizing World.”

During the visit, the UNESCO Director-General will open and attend the 9th meeting of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development, co-chaired by H.E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Mr Carlos Slim Helú, President, Carlos Slim Foundation, and for which UNESCO is co-Vice Chair with the International Telecommunication Union.
