Started in January 2011, SUSTCULT is a European Union 3-year-project co-funded by the South East Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme - Jointly for our common future. The project which gathered European partners was joined by the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, Venice (Italy), and was led by the City of Venice. It focused on integrated and innovative approaches and tools for improving cultural heritage site management throughout the South-East European region.

SUSTCULT partners shared a common challenge, that of strengthening cultural heritage management as an integral part of the sustainable development process of urban centres and surrounding areas and as a driver for boosting local economies. During the project lifetime, partners successfully experimented more participative approaches in decision-making in the process of management planning.

The UNESCO Venice Office is pleased to announce the SUSTCULT Final Conference, scheduled to take place on 8 April 2014 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The event will give further insights into the results of the project and look at future opportunities and good practices. The agenda will highlight the following topics: integrated approach to cultural heritage planning and management; sustainable promotion of heritage sites and marketing activities; management planning processes (achievements, opportunities, challenges); and funding opportunities within the EU programmes 2014-2020. At the end of each session, the speakers will share and discuss project results with participants. Ample time will also be reserved during the day for networking.

Save the date in your calendar. We are looking forward to meeting you in Ljubljana ! For more information about the Final Conference, download the announcement from the right menu.
