UNESCO Announces the opening of a Nation-wide Photo Competition, “Show Us the Afghanistan You’re Proud of”

November 3, 2015, UNESCO Office in Afghanistan announced the launch of a nation-wide photo competition “Show us the Afghanistan you’re proud of” in order to portray the rich cultural and natural heritage of Afghanistan. The competition is open to all individuals regardless of their nationality.

UNESCO promotes the view and the strongly held conviction that cultural and natural heritage represent essential elements of nation building. Culture makes a valuable contribution to socio-economic development and it paves the way towards a shared national identity to appreciate and celebrate the positive aspects of diversity and dialogue among different groups and communities.

UNESCO invites all Afghans and foreigners alike to capture and share the country’s stunningly diverse natural and cultural heritage through their photos.

We would like to thank all our stakeholders and partners who are involved in the awareness raising on Afghanistan’s heritage, in particular the Government of the Republic of Korea for providing the funding for this initiative.

Participants may submit their photos until 21 December 2015. Photos can be submitted into two categories: photos taken by a camera and photos taken by a mobile phone. Camera Photos can be emailed to afg.photo@unesco.org. Photos taken on mobile phones can be uploaded to www.facebook.com/showusyourafghanistan.

The winners and finalists will be selected anonymously by an independent Jury which comprises of internationally and nationally renowned photographers such as Mr. Reza Deghati (President of the Jury), Ms. Sadie Quarrier, Mr. Simon Norfolk, Mr. Reza Yemak, and Ms. Rada Akbar. The winning Camera Photos will receive the first prize of 5000 US dollars, and second and third prizes of 4000 and 3000 US dollars. The three top Mobile photos will receive 2000 US dollars each.
