Further to a call for proposals, the selected applicants travelled to Benin to be coached by experienced filmmakers over a period of three months, in order to produce their own, individual short films. Finally, those short films produced by the young directors were broadcast on West African TV channels and Canal France International (CFI).

Objectives and expected results

The project aims to promote young filmmakers in the audiovisual field and to support them in launching their professional career.

About the beneficiaries

"I am Senegalese and (...) it was of great importance to me to apply [to coaching court] (…) I have already evolved in the world [of cinema] and i think it is good to discover this country [Benin] but also to meet people like Mr Kaboré and Mr Ignace [Yetchenou] (…) these are people that we can't have [access to] every day. It is a great pleasure to work with them and I hope that this [experience] will open other doors in the world of cinema for us"  (participant from Senegal)

« I plan to leave here with a professional film. I believe that to leave with a film is already something huge; its every director's dream (...) if I have [a film] I can call myself a director" (participant from Burkina Faso)

« It was a dream of mine for a long time, but one which I was unable to materialise. I believe that cinema can bring peace to Mali" (participant from Mali).

« We learnt a lot here (…) it will be a good thing for our future [for] our career in cinema » (participant from Niger)
