The International Fund for the Promotion of Culture (IFPC) is governed by an Administrative Council consisting of eight members designated by the Director-General who meet in ordinary session once a year. The members designated are eminent and independent persons whose competence and achievement in the fields of the arts and culture are recognized internationally and who sit in a personal capacity. Two members of the Administrative Council are from the donor countries.
The president of the Administrative Council is elected by its members and is chosen from its membership.
The Administrative Council enjoys wide intellectual and operational autonomy within UNESCO. It establishes the principles governing the Fund’s activities, decides on the use of the resources of the Fund, approves its budget, analyses and approves requests for funding, and endeavours to promote the voluntary contribution of funds or of any other form of resources.
To date, the Administrative Council has held three ordinary meetings and one extraordinary meeting.
