The Joint Programmes and the UNESCO Culture Conventions

The 18 MDG-F Culture and Development Joint Programmes have been designed and implemented in the framework of international standard-setting instruments in the field of culture. In this sense, they have significantly helped beneficiary countries implement UNESCO's Conventions on culture, notably by:

  • Increasing awareness of the Conventions by promoting and disseminating relevant information at the national, regional and sub-regional levels
  • Ensuring appropriate legal measures are taken by government partners
  • Building institutional capacity to monitor the implementation of the Conventions
  • Designing and implementing specific activities in accordance with the provisions of the Conventions
