Cultural Diversity
UNESCO Moscow Office mainly focuses on implementation of the principles of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity (2001) and Convention on the Protection and the Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005) in the cluster countries. By carrying out various activities the Office aims to raise awareness about the value and the wealth of cultural diversity and its role for sustainable development.
UNESCO Moscow Office actively works in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation to integrate the principles of cultural diversity and pluralism into all national policies, in particular, those relating to quality education, environment, heritage management, media, information technology and creative industries. A special emphasis is given to the development of the integrative approach towards implementation of the UNESCO’s conventions in the filed of the safeguarding of the heritage in its various dimensions and the enhancement of cultural diversity.
Kuyaar – Observatory of Cultural Diversity. Traditions and Folk Art of Peoples of the Republic Sakha (Yakoutia)
The multilingual Russian/English/Yakut/Even internet portal “Kuyaar – Observatory of Cultural Diversity. Traditions and Folk Art of Peoples of the Republic Sakha” was launched with the aim to promote preservation of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Sakha, providing a wide public access to cultural resources of Yakoutia and integrating the cultural heritage of the Republic of Sakha into global culture. A special emphasis of the website content is placed on the Yakut Heroic Epos “Olonkho”, the Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

International Conference “Avant-garde and Cultures: Art, Design, Cultural Environment”
With the aim to promote the dialogue of cultures and the formation of vibrant cultural environments as well as to foster modern creative vision, the UNESCO Moscow Office organized and conducted the “International Conference “Avant-garde and Cultures: Art, Design, Cultural Environment” (May 17-19, 2007, Minsk, Republic of Belarus).
The event was devoted to the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development (21 May) and dealt with the issues of cultural expressions in the context of globalization and universalization of cultures and new vision of common and local in artistic and cultural landscape of Eastern Europe, Russia and the former Soviet Republics in the context of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005).
The international participants represented leading universities and art centers, design and culture from Armenia, Azerbaijan, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russian Federation and other countries.
