Brief project description
The project consists of translating 12 contemporary stories by famous female authors from English into Arabic. These stories will be recorded in audio books which will be distributed free of charge to the visually impaired in Egypt. Project partners include the British Council in Cairo and the Taha Hussein Hall Library at Cairo University.
Objectives and expected results
The project is intended to to pave the way for literary and social organizations to cooperate in the Arab world to produce literary masterpieces for the benefit of the visually impaired. This step will galvanize other collective groups working in favor of the visually impaired into taking similar steps in the field of culture. With these books, visually-impaired youth, will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the world’s most innovative fiction. While the online issues will target the whole world, the audio book will be distributed for free in Egypt and Libya for the benefit of the visually impaired youth aged between 18 and 30 years old.
