The Inception Workshop will kick-start the 36-month project aimed at the protection and sustainable development of the Lake Ohrid region.

About 30 representatives from Albania and The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia will participate in the Inception Workshop, including national authorities from the respective Ministries of Environment and Culture, local authorities from the Municipalities of the Lake Ohrid region, Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Convention, ICOMOS, ICCROM and IUCN, as well as representatives from the EU and UNESCO.

The project is designed to address the main threats affecting the natural and cultural heritage of the Lake Ohrid region such as unplanned urban development, waste management issues, habitat alteration, destruction and depletion of natural resources. It is aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries over the region’s cultural and natural heritage.
