UNESCO has designed a tool for writing textbooks that are free from stereotypes, as part of the implementation of the UNESCO-Saudi Arabia project “Toolkit for the revision/adaptation of curricula, school textbooks and other learning materials to remove cultural, religious and gender-biased stereotypes”.
The objective of the workshop is to test the usability and relevance of the tool and to collect all feedback and input to improve all aspects of the tool.
The framework for the project is the agreement between UNESCO and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Programme for a Culture of Peace and Dialogue.
Participants are textbook authors, publishers, curriculum developers, experts in textbook development, the designers of the tool. The workshop will be organized in plenary sessions and working groups. All groups will work on the three modules -religion, culture or gender- of the tool; groups will be divided into sub-groups according to the module that participants chose.
