The purpose of UNESCO’s Education prizes is to reward outstanding efforts in the drive to achieve quality education for all. The themes of the prizes (literacy, special needs, information and communication technologies, human rights and peace) are in conformity with UNESCO’s policies and programmes. Nominations are made by the governments of Member States, in consultation with their National Commissions, and by non-government organizations maintaining official relations with UNESCO. An international jury, appointed by the Director General chooses the prize winners.
