Being John Malkovich on the stage
“I can’t pretend to understand most of the world’s problems, I’ve never presumed to, and I can’t certainly pretend to solve any of them”, says American actor John Malkovich in an interview for The UNESCO Courier, given just before delivering his message for the 50th World Theatre Day.
"All I can do is theatre. In other words, show scenes from the life of an individual or a group of people who lived in a certain way at a certain time. By doing this, I can encourage spectators to think about themselves – who they are and what they feel. And I think that if it is not invaluable, it’s pretty valuable."
