UN Joint Programming
Joint programming is one of the tools the UN is using as part of its reform efforts. UN agencies, with national partners and donors, see clear gains in effectiveness and efficiency from combining their efforts and resources in a common work plan and budget.
Joint programmes usually provide details about the roles and responsibilities of each partner in coordinating and managing the joint activities. UNESCO through its Regional Office for Science and Culture in Europe has participated in UN joint programming since 2007. Funding sources for these joint programmes have included the Spanish MDG Achievement Fund, the UN Trust Fund for Human Security, and UN Country/Coherence Funds for Montenegro and Albania. To date, all joint programmes that this Office has contributed to have been at the national or country-level.

Spanish MDG Achievement Fund
"Looking ahead to 2015 and beyond, there is no question that we can achieve the overarching goal: we can put an end to poverty. In almost all instances, experience has demonstrated the validity of earlier agreements on the way forward; in other words, we know what to do. But it requires an unswerving, collective, long-term effort." United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Established in 2007 with a generous contribution from the Government of Spain to the United Nations system, the Spanish MDG Achievement Fund (MDG-F) works together with governments and UN Agencies to implement joint programmes that help advance the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) worldwide. The MDG-F is also set up in a way that fosters enhanced cooperation between UN Agencies and contributes to UN Reform processes.

UN Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS)
The UN Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS) was established in 1999 with the aim of promoting human security through the protection and empowerment of people and communities threatened in their livelihood, survival and dignity.
The UNTFHS finances projects carried out by organizations in the UN system, and when appropriate, in partnership with non-UN entities, to advance the operational impact of the human security concept. The UNTFHS places priority on promoting multi-sectoral and inter-agency integration based on the comparative advantage of the applying organizations and through their collaboration.
Projects are distributed globally, with priority given to countries and regions where the insecurities of people are most critical and pervasive, such as the least developed countries (LDC's) and countries in conflict - More
