Objectives

The meeting in Lima will be a space for dialogue among the Ministers of Education of the Member States of Latin America and the Caribbean, who, along with other actors, will analyse the region’s progress towards the six 2015 Education for All (EFA) goals and will agree upon the priorities for the post-2015 education agenda, considering the transformation faced by our countries.

Topics to be discussed

  1. The progress made by the region, critical issues and gaps that still need to be bridged in order to meet the 2015 EFA goals.
  2. Emerging challenges and issues in education at the regional level in terms of post-2015.
  3. The global education objective in the framework of the new Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, and contributions made by the Global EFA Meeting, held by UNESCO in Oman on 12-14 May 2014.

Expected results

  1. A regional EFA synthesis report up to 2015, which will be included in the global report to be presented at the 2015 World Education Forum, with the close of the 2015 Education for All goals, to be held in South Korea in May 2015.
  2. Recommendations made by the Ministers regarding the global education objective, within the framework of the new Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals and the proposals of the Global EFA Meeting (Oman).
  3. Roadmap agreed upon for the post-2015 regional education agenda, including a mechanism for contextualized follow-up, which responds to the region’s challenges in education.

The analysis and work sessions during the encounter will be based on:

  • The national progress reports on the six 2015 EFA goals;
  • A regional report prepared by OREALC/UNESCO Santiago on the current status of education; and
  • The report and declaration of the Global Education for All Meeting, held in Oman on 12-14 May 2014.
