Media Development

Media development – advancing the mutual knowledge and understanding of peoples, through all means of mass communication

UNESCO assists the Member States in strengthening their communication capacities by developing independent and pluralistic media and improving media access to ICTs, in particular through the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC).

Two IPDC supported projects in Moldova and Armenia encourages the development of independent and pluralistic media on the local and community level. The UNESCO Moscow Office contributed to rebuilding media infrastructures in conflict and post-conflict areas as well as in post-disaster situations. Thanks to the extra budgetary funds the Office supported the setting up of media facilities that can provide non-partisan information in the Republic of Kabardino Balkaria, Russian Federation.
