Gender and Education

Gender issues remained at the centre of UNESCO education activities. Besides that it has undertaken UN Joint Programme to address Violence against Women (JP VAW) to integrate VAW issues into secondary and higher secondary education curriculum, teachers training curriculum and core textbooks.  The recently-approved National Education Policy is focused on gender, and violence against women will be addressed through curricula and textbooks starting from 2012. Therefore, NCTB has started revising the curricula and textbooks step by step. NCTB has taken and following the finalized recommendations of JP VAW during revising the curricula and textbooks. Initially seven core textbooks are revised and become more gender balanced and responsive and reach secondary students on the very first day of 2012. Another ten core textbooks will be revised by 2012 and reach to secondary and higher secondary students in the beginning of next year.
