American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is committed to working with UNESCO to develop quality engineering education standards, increase public awareness about the value of engineering, particularly as a driver for sustainable development, and to expand the engineering workforce capacity.

Through collaborative policy-related projects, ASME and UNESCO aim to raise awareness of engineering as a key driver in sustainable development, to improve engineering curricula, and to strengthen the capacity of its workforce, particularly in developing countries.

European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN)

CERN’s strategic position promotes international co-operation in the use of technology between its Member States and thus allowing for more applications of the promising field of scientific discoveries at the nuclear level.

Khan Academy

The Khan Academy is an educational not-for-profit organization aiming to provide a free, world class education for anyone, anywhere. The Academy has delivered over 150 million lessons, and offers over 3,200 videos covering various topics, including maths, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, economics and art history. It includes over 350 interactive exercises in Math.

The Globe Program

UNESCO and The GLOBE Program work together to disseminate information regarding the enhancement of professional development for teachers worldwide in support of student learning and scientific research.

Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

UNESCO and IEEE collaborate on projects in Africa that aim to improve engineering education standards, facilitate faculty training, increase the number of students in engineering, particularly women, enhance interdisciplinary research capacity of universities, and incorporate engineering for sustainable development into curricula.

IEEE works with UNESCO in cooperation with African institutions to accredit universities, train faculty and develop engineering education outreach programmes for university students and teachers in Africa. Through these efforts, they strive to yield a trained workforce able to develop innovative, creative solutions to current challenges.

Nature Publishing Group: Nature Education

Nature Education, a division of Nature Publishing Group, publishes innovative, award winning, high quality educational resources, which are in use in every region of the world, supporting institutions, instructors, students, learned societies, and lifelong learners in their quest to contribute to the world of science.

Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP)

This UNESCO Institute (Category 1) is governed jointly by UNESCO, IAEA and Italy. It supports excellence in developing countries and has been developing and conducting high level scientific research and programmes for over 50 years.

International Council of Associations for Science Education (ICASE)

UNESCO and ICASE further the goal of extending and improving scientific and technological literacy for children and young people throughout the world through their respective networks.

Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers s (SPIE)

The international society for optics and photonics, is a not-for-profit society that advances light-based technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent, career and professional growth.

SPIE is pleased to partner with UNESCO in its Active Learning in Optics and Photonics program to ensure that the physics education goals adopted at the 2005 World Conference on Physics and Sustainable Development are achieved.
