With UNESCO’s support, the first Global Alliance on Media and Gender (GAMAG) General Assembly took place at the United Nations in Geneva from 9 to 10 December, two years after the UNESCO-led Bangkok Global Forum on Media and Gender (GFMG) which culminated in the formation of GAMAG.

The General Assembly brought together more than 120 representatives from over 700 member organizations and individuals, and provided a platform for dialogues between all regional chapters of GAMAG.

Organized by UNESCO and GAMAG, in partnership with Greece, 15 UN organizations and the Council of Europe the conference took place at a time when global partners are finalizing performance indicators to monitor the  Sustainable Development Goals which were recently adopted by the international development community.

The General Assembly followed GAMAG’s strategic participation at the 59th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in March 2015. The conference also coincided with the Human Rights Day of 2015.
