Training Workshop for Women Community Radio Broadcasters of South Asia

Building Community Radio in Nigeria

The workshops are aimed at sensitizing the communities on the importance of setting up community radio stations. This IPDC-funded project contributes to expanding the plurality and diversity of the media in Nigeria, and enhances the capacities of local communities in the use of media for democratic discourse.

Towards a Media code of Ethics in Lebanon

UNESCO’s Office in Beirut will launch the Media Code of Ethics in Lebanon, jointly produced by UNESCO and the Maharat Foundation, under an IPDC project. The preparation of this publication has been done through a participatory approach including Lebanese print and online media, radio and TV.
Managing Indian Media Libraries and Archives: Challenges, Opportunities and Best Practices

World Radio Day

Conference on Freedom of expression on the Internet

Towards Knowledge Societies for Peace and Sustainable Development (WSIS+10)

Ten years after the adoption of the Geneva Plan of Action by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) setting specific targets for 2015, UNESCO is hosting the first WSIS+10 review meeting. Awareness Campaign on Election

UNESCO’s Office in Beirut is joining efforts with Annahar newspaper and a local NGO to disseminate information about the election process. This campaign will target journalists from all over Lebanon and will focus on different aspects of an election process.
Launch of a School Library for Syrian and Lebanese Students
March; BarElias school, Bekaa area, Lebanon
This library will serve as an elementary school, for 920 students with 390 Syrians. It will be equipped with computers and library management software, multimedia corner and books. Library management training will be given to librarians and teachers.
Women Make the News

Launched annually on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Women Make the News (WMN) is a global policy advocacy initiative aimed at promoting gender equality in the media. It is part of UNESCO’s strategy to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in and through media.

World Press Freedom Day

Every year, 3 May is the date to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom, to evaluate press freedom around the world, to defend the media from attacks on their independence and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.

The event is expected to gather several eminent personalities, such as United States Ambassador to Nigeria, the Chargé d'Affaires of the British High Commission, Nigeria’s Attorney General and Ministers of Justice and of Information.
World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2013

Throughout the WSIS process, UNESCO has succeeded in positioning itself as a catalyst of enabling ICTs for the content, policy and capacity development, which are decisive for closing the existing knowledge divides.
