The social dimensions of sustainable development: the 2013 World Social Science Report “Changing Global Environments”

-

Within the context of the 52nd session of the UN Commission for Social Development (11-21 February 2014), UNESCO organizes a side-event on “The social dimensions of sustainable development: the 2013 World Social Science Report “Changing Global Environments’’ - scientific findings and policy responses”, on 13 February.

During this side-event, the International Social Science Council (ISSC) will present the key findings of the 2013 World Social Science Report “Changing Global Environments”.

The 2013 World Social Science Report was produced by the ISSC, and co-published with UNESCO and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Over one hundred and fifty authors from all over the world contributed.

The report calls on the international social science community to deliver urgently relevant and credible knowledge that can help to address the most pressing of today’s environmental problems and sustainability challenges. This needs to be done in close collaboration with decision-makers and practitioners. It also aims to engage social scientists working in all disciplines in academia, research institutes, think tanks, NGOs, and government agencies all over the world.

The presentation will be followed by a discussion involving UN system and government representatives.
