Memory of the World Register - 1997
The Memory of the World Register lists documentary heritage which has been recommended by the International Advisory Committee, and endorsed by the Director-General of UNESCO, as corresponding to the selection criteria regarding world significance and outstanding universal value.
Argentina – The Documentary Heritage of the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata
The documentation produced in the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata was collected and archived in Buenos Aires, the city which was its administrative centre. The National Archives also contain colonial documentary collections from the Republics of Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and a district in Peru Governorship of Puno. The documents on the ports activity of Buenos Aires and Montevideo also provides knowledge about the existed political and commercial relations between the Viceroyalty and the other countries of America, Europe and Africa.
Mexico - Codices from the Oaxaca Valley
The Marquisate of the Oaxaca Valley was the land granted by the Crown on 6 July 1529 to Hernán Cortés in recognition of his services. This three codices were drafted by indigenous scribes (tlacuilos) using their own writing system and written on agave (maguey) paper. They are accompanied by documents drafted by the descendants of Hernán Cortés. They constitute indigenous testimony after the Conquest and reflection of pre-Hispanic documents.
Venezuela – Collection of Latin American photographs of the 19th Century
This is the most comprehensive historical collection of nineteenth-century Latin American photography in existence anywhere in the American continent. The collection takes the form of 8,000 titles depicting a great variety of subjects. These include, urban development in major populated centres, ports, landscape, rural life and important personalities. All the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are represented.
