10.09.2014 - UNESCO Office in Amman

The Ministry of Education concludes two seminars that will help in creating better, timely and more accurate data for decision-making.

In an effort to strengthen education planning and management in Jordan, UNESCO Amman together with Ministry of Education concluded two seminars on Education Management Information System (EMIS) with the financial support from the European Union.

On August 13th 2014, senior government officials, policy makers from the Ministry of Education and Queen Rania Center, as well as represents from various international agencies such as UNICEF, SCJ, UNHCR, UNRWA and European Union Delegation to Jordan participated in the launch of a new data collection and analysis tool named “OpenEMIS Refugees”. This tool will be used for systematically monitor enrollments and attendance of Syrian Refugees in schools. After reviewing the features of “OpenEMIS Refugees”, the participants discussed the way forward for its implementation at school level, planned for October 2014. To ensure national ownership of the technical solution, this event was followed by a training workshop on use and management of OpenEMIS Refugees, targeting technical officers from the Ministry of Education, Planning Department.

On August 17-19th 2014, a technical workshop was also organized by UNESCO Amman and the Ministry of Education to review the conclusions of an EMIS Needs Assessment Report prepared in the context of a 3 years support project to assist the Ministry of Education in the strengthening of its Information System. The workshop included presentations, panel discussions, and round-table discussions allowing participants to further refine the report and set the way forward for the pilot deployment of the improved EMIS in the coming months.
