In 2010, UNESCO launched an initiative called “Un livre pour un enfant d’Haiti” (“A Book for a Child in Haiti”).  The Organization collected French-language books from staff, friends and pupils in UNESCO Associated Schools for distribution to children in Haiti’s camps for internally displaced persons. The French publishers Editions Michel Lafon and Editions Bérénice also contributed to the collection.

In January 2011, UNESCO with the support of Société d'Animation et de Communication Sociale (SAKS), set up a community radio station in Cap Rouge, a community in the South-East of Haiti, about one hour from Jacmel.

Association des journalistes haitiens (AJH) with the support of UNESCO and International Media Support (IMS) organized a training for Haitian journalists on election coverage before the presidential and legislative election of the 28 November 2010. This training took place from 12 to 14 November 2010 in the multimedia center of the MINUSTAH in Gonaives, Haiti.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) along Group Medialternatif is operating a mobile computer training center in camps for internally displaced people aimed at improving computer skills and expending educational and professional opportunities and creating a blogs for each of six camps where the activity is taking place. The project also received the support of Agence France Presse, Reporters Without Borders and Collectif Haiti of France.

The UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, made an official visit to Haiti in order to express her solidarity and to hold consultations with the country's leaders concerning the reconstruction strategy in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 12 January 2010.

Frédéric de La Mure, photographer of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made a photo report on Haiti in September 2009 and returned a few days after the 2010 earthquake. These images allow to measure the magnitude of the challenges facing the country and how UNESCO and the international community as a whole, can contribute in the areas of education, heritage protection, support and information management as well as risk prevention.
