UNESCO/ICOM Museum Studies Training Programme
The UNESCO/ICOM Museum Studies Training Programme, aiming at improving and enhancing the knowledge and competencies of museum personnel in developing countries, was prepared jointly by UNESCO and ICOM, the International Council of Museums. It exists in downloadable English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Russian and Chinese language versions.
Containing materials designed for use by new or future museum professionals, the programme consists of a Practical Handbook and Trainer’s Manual written by established professionals in the field. With contributions on the role of museums, collections management, inventories and documentation, care and preservation of collections and other matters, it will be an essential resource for both new and established museum professionals.
In addition to the Practical Handbook, a Trainer’s Manual provides practical ideas, case studies and materials for trainers in museum studies and management. An additional Training Needs Questionnaire completes the programme, allowing target audiences to identify their training needs.
