Deputy Director-General in Gabon for the New York Forum Africa

New York Forum Africa

From 28 to 30 August 2015, UNESCO’s Deputy Director-General and Deputy Director-General for Africa, Mr Getachew Engida, participated in the 4th Edition of the New York Forum Africa in Libreville (Gabon). The event was held jointly with another major initiative: the First Edition of the South Climate Initiative (CSI), which took place on August 29, with the objectives to define the role of developing countries in the fight against global warming and to find concrete solutions to prepare for COP21 scheduled in December 2015 in Paris.

At the invitation of Mrs. Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, the First Lady of the Republic of Gabon, Mr Engida intervened in the panel dedicated to the leadership of women, touching upon issues of ’How to encourage women to pursue careers in the field of science and technology? How can we support, for encouragement and mentoring so they can then engage in the private and public sectors?’

During his speech, Mr. Engida shared UNESCO's vision on these matters with the audience which you can see from the following video.
