PEN International awarded major UNESCO grant for Minority Language Publishing Project

March 2014 - May 2015

The UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity awarded PEN International (NGO in associate status wiwth UNESCO) a grant for a project contributing to the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The project aims to reinforce national and regional cultural policies related to the publishing sector in Haiti, Kenya, Nigeria and Serbia and to strengthen the minority-language publishing in these countries. It will be implemented with PEN Centres in Kenya, Serbia, Haiti and Nigeria.

The IFCD is a multi-donor fund established under the 2005 Convention. Its purpose is to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction in developing countries that are Parties to the 2005 Convention. The IFCD is implementing 71 projects from 43 developing countries.
