Why question the role of women in fighting poverty? This raises another question: why should we debate the role of women more particularly rather than the role of women and men? The answer is that women are often the most affected by poverty, but they are also very often the first ones to find survival strategies and to be agents of change.

The fourth International Forum of NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO on “The Role of Women in Fighting Poverty”, which will take place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France on 29 and 30 June 2015, will provide the opportunity for the audience to listen to many testimonies and watch short videos testifying to NGOs’ field actions in different countries and bearing evidence to the fact that women show inventiveness in the face of poverty, and generate concrete and innovative actions in the fight against different forms of poverty.

Organized by the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee in close cooperation with the UNESCO Secretariat, in accordance with the Directives on UNESCO’s partnership with non-governmental organizations (36 C/Res. 108), the Forum is intended primarily for NGOs in official partnership with the Organization, but is open also to other organizations and/or individuals interested in the topics, as well as to representatives of Member States, subject to prior registration on the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee website.
