“The role of youth in the safeguarding of tangible and intangible cultural heritage”,. Third International Forum of NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO

The third International Forum of NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO, on the theme “The role of youth in the safeguarding of tangible and intangible cultural heritage” will take place in Sofia and Sozopol (Bulgaria) from 28 to 30 September 2014.

The Forum’s theme falls within UNESCO’s priorities in the field of protecting and safeguarding cultural heritage, as well as within the UNESCO’s Operational Strategy for Youth 2014-2021.

How to build capacity (in formal and informal education) for young people in safeguarding cultural heritage? Which initiatives, public and private, are needed to include young people in the safeguarding of cultural heritage and awareness-raising? How to promote cultural diversity and to improve intercultural dialogue through the safeguarding of cultural heritage? How to create jobs/livelihoods through cultural heritage safeguarding and contribute to sustainable development?

During two days of discussions and workshops in Sozopol, the Forum will review the different types of youth participation in heritage safeguarding, sharing experiences in particular on the difficulties faced by NGOs in this area, and seek ways to encourage support in working on safeguarding with youth.

Organized by the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee in close cooperation with the UNESCO Secretariat, in accordance with the Directives on UNESCO’s partnership with non-governmental organizations (36 C/Res. 108) and with the support of Sozopol Foundation, the Forum is intended primarily for NGOs in official partnership with the Organization, but is open also to other organizations and institutions interested in the topics, as well as to representatives of Member States, subject to prior registration on the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee website (www.ong-unesco.org)

Any additional information and working documents will become available soon on this site and that of the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee (www.ong-unesco.org).

A wide participation of young people in the Forum is sought.
