Students from Associated Schools adopt Joint Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development

L. Saldari -Adoption of the Joint Declaration by UNESCO ASPnet

A Joint Declaration for the promotion of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) was adopted by 160 students from UNESCO’s Associated Schools representing 32 countries on 7 November.

The students came together in Okayama, Japan, to participate in the UNESCO ASPnet International ESD Events to address the challenges the world is facing and to share their views and ambitions for a sustainable future.

In the Joint Declaration, ASPnet students expressed their belief that ESD is essential to the success of sustainable development around the world. They affirmed the importance and the willingness to take the lead in respecting the environment, cultures, traditions and other human beings – regardless of their age or where they live. 

The Declaration highlights the achievements which can be made through responsible activities and creative projects promoting mutual understanding and inspiration.
