UNESCO launches HIV poetry book on “Universal Access and Human Rights” on World AIDS Day

UNESCO Office, Jakarta has introduced their latest publication, the poetry book titled “Universal Access and Human Rights" produced with funds from UNAIDS under the framework of EDUCAIDS, the UNESCO led Global Initiative on Education and HIV & AIDS, which seeks to promote, develop and support comprehensive education sector responses to HIV and AIDS.

The poetry book is a compilation of 100 poems produced in the national language, Bahasa Indonesia, by students and youth who participated in the poetry design and writing competition sponsored by UNESCO in collaborated with Indonesia National Commission for UNESCO. Up to 700 youth from the formal education sector (secondary schools, including UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet) and non-formal education sector (Local Community Learning Centers or Pusat Kegiatan Belajar Masyarakat PKBM) were invited to participate in the competition.

The event was held to mark World AIDS Day in December of 2010, aiming to increase awareness amongst youth and encourage their active participation in HIV prevention to support peer-education programs. [More details.]
