  • Her Royal Highness Princess Firyal
    A member of the Jordanian Royal Family and an international patron of the arts, H.R.H. Princess Firyal was designated Goodwill Ambassador in 1992.

    H.R.H. Princess Firyal is a Columbia graduate and a member of the Dean’s Council at Harvard’s Kennedy School. She serves as a board member of the International Rescue Committee and of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and is a director of the United Nations Association.

    She has been a relentless advocate of humanitarian causes and has participated in charity events worldwide. Her Hope Foundation, founded in collaboration with UNESCO, supports education projects for street and working children. She has given a prominent voice to women in rural areas and campaigns for the improvement of their living conditions the world over. Representing UNESCO at various international conferences, H.R.H. Princess Firyal helps to promote the rights of the family and children and the protection of the world’s cultural heritage.

    H.R.H. Princess Firyal also helps the joint UNESCO-UNA fundraising operation HERO for Africa’s Children project, and uses her international status to give a voice to the work and ideals of UNESCO.

    In September 2004, the Director-General conferred on Princess Firyal the mission to promote UNESCO’s Education for All initiative, on which she has since focused her activities. On the occasion of the inauguration of the Education for All exhibition at UNESCO Headquarters in October 2005, H.R.H. Princess Firyal made a donation of US$ 100,000 to the Education for All initiative, which is at the heart of the Organization’s work.

Princess Firyal co-chaired the annual Global Leadership Award dinner, which was organized by the United Nations Association of the USA, presided by Ambassador William H. Luers, and the Business Council for the United Nations on 30 September 2004. More than 800 people attended the fundraising dinner at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Distinguished guests of the evening's ceremonies included UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, famous actor Michael Douglas, TV talk-show host Oprah Winfrey and David Rockefeller.   • Goodwill Ambassadors Serve as Patrons for the International Congress Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the World Heritage Convention
    H.R.H. Princess Firyal of Jordan, Ms Marianna Vardinoyannis and Wole Soyinka, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors, were nominated as Patrons for the World Heritage International Congress 2002: “Shared Legacy and Common Resposibility” marking the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the World Heritage Convention. The congress took place on 14 November 2002 at the Giorgio Cini Foundation on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, Italy. More
