House of Knowledge, a sculpture by Jaume Plensa, United Kingdom

UNESCO works closely with partner organizations to promote its strategic objectives within key priority areas (Education, Natural and Social Sciences, Culture and Communication). In many areas where data and expertise are lacking, UNESCO Chairs and Networks and Category 2 Institutes and Centres have evolved into poles of excellence and innovation at the regional or sub-regional levels. They also contribute to strengthening North-South-South cooperation.

These partnerships contribute to the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions by reinforcing capacities in their respective regions, by increasing the participation of communities, groups and individuals; and by fostering regional and international cooperation.
