High-level meeting on the Education 2030 Framework for Action
The Education 2030 High-Level Meeting was held following the World Education Forum 2015, which demonstrated that despite tremendous progress made in expanding educational opportunities worldwide over the past 15 years, the Education for All (EFA) goals and education-related MDGs remain unfinished business. Education 2030 attends to this unfinished business, while effectively addressing current and future global and national education challenges.
With a view to providing guidance towards the accomplishment of the Education 2030 agenda, the Education 2030 Framework for Action aims to mobilize all stakeholders around the ambitious education goal and targets, and proposes ways of implementing, coordinating, financing and reviewing the 2030 education agenda - globally, regionally and nationally- guaranteeing equal educational opportunity for all.
The meeting brought together ministers and high-level representatives of government delegations, heads of international agencies, representatives of multi- and bilateral organizations, civil society, the teaching profession, academia, youth and the private sector, who jointly adopted the Education 2030 Framework for Action.
Immediately after the high-level meeting the official launch of the publication “Rethinking Education: Towards a global common good?” took place. The publication serves as a normative reference for the vision and principles outlined in the Education 2030 FFA. It is also a call for public policy dialogue around the purpose of education and the organization of learning in order to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning for all by 2030.
Speakers at the launch included UNESCO DG Irina Bokova, ADG/ED Qian Tang as well as, the two co-chairs of the Senior Experts’ Group tasked with preparing the publication: Mr Georges Haddad and Professor John Morgan.
