UNESCO keynote speaker at Belgian conference on challenges and opportunities of new global goals

Educaid.be

How will education need to transform itself to implement Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) and act as a motor for sustainable development in the next 15 years? That is the theme of a conference, Education and the Sustainable Development Goals, Challenges and Opportunities, organised by Educaid.be, the Belgian platform for education and training in development cooperation.

The conference, to be held in Brussels on 24 November, will include a keynote speech by UNESCO providing a general contextualisation on education and the SDGs.

The Educaid.be conference aims to enrich discussion on education and development issues by giving the floor to academics and researchers, policy-makers and practitioners from all over the world.

Three panels will focus on different aspects of education for sustainable development and examine in a critical way the challenges and opportunities ahead.

In September 2015, the 17 global Goals for sustainable development were adopted to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect the planet by 2030. SDG 4 pledges to ensure 12 years of quality education for all children and lifelong learning opportunities for everyone by 2030.
