UNESCO supports new local radio stations in Tunisia
In the framework of its support to local Tunisian radios following the revolution of 14 January 2011, UNESCO has organized training activities for traditional and web radio stations. The six-day workshops, which are taking place from 15 August to 5 October 2013, will benefit the following radio stations: Karama Radio in Sidi Bouzid, La Voix des mines in Gafsa, Ulysse Radio in Djerba, Radio 6 in Tunis, Djérid Radio in Tozeur et Nefzawa Radio in Kebili.
This series of trainings, targeting Tunisian journalists and radio presenters, aims to build capacities of local media and to support citizen radio production in the democratic process that is happening in Tunisia now. Assisting local radio stations in building their capacities is an important step on the way towards the creation of a free, independent, professional and pluralist media landscape.
An experienced Arab-speaking trainer will address various subjects, such as reporting and presentation technics, good professional practices, journalistic ethics and production of gender-sensitive content, particularly for interviews, balanced reports, electoral coverage and political debates.
The training programme, which also includes the delivering of production equipment, received funding support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
